ExperienceI graduated from New York University with a Master of Fine Arts in Fiction. As an undergraduate student, I attended the University of Iowa and received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English, in addition to studying French and comparative literature. For the last five years, I've been working as a tutor and student teacher. During this time, I've helped a number of pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds improve their understanding of the English language. In addition to teaching English as a Second Language, I've also had the privilege of working with college-bound high school students, where I've helped them prepare for upcoming entrance exams, as well as helping them develop the study habits necessary to succeed in the university setting. I believe that the most effective way to teach someone is to come up with ways to help them expand their current strengths, while also coming up with a strategy to help them overcome their weaknesses. My experience as a teacher has taught me the importance of building a professional rapport with my students, so that I understand their unique needs and expectations, as well as their personality and interests. With this information, I'm then able to come up with engaging lessons that are easier to follow in the classroom.
