Experience

I was a paid peer tutor at Stanford's Center for Teaching and Learning, teaching general chemistry for over a year. For two years, I was a mentor and tutor for a middle school student through the student-run volunteering organization Barrio Assistance. During the final year of my master's degree, I was a course assistant for two courses: Medical Robotics and Biomechanics of Movement. I am available to tutor AP chemistry, AP Physics/Physics C, and math up to AP Calculus BC (also willing to tutor middle school aged students in math). As an engineer and pre-med student (with an MCAT score in the 95th percentile), I feel very comfortable with the content of these courses. $75/hour for these subjects. I am also offering a combined introduction to Java and introduction to microcontrollers/smart product design. The course starts with Java. The student and I will cover the material from the first three assignments of Stanford's Programming Methodology course (CS 106A). Basic code structure, iterative loops, decomposition and good programming style, and testing. Assignments will include solving puzzles and making the classic game Breakout. After the student feels comfortable with the basics of coding, we'll move to the Arduino microcontroller. We'll learn to use programming, basic circuit design, and digital and analog I/O to blink an LED, power motors, and create a sensor-based project of the student's choice. I specialized in robotics and mechatronics for my master's degree. I've also published and received awards at international conferences for a device design project and for creating an innovative STEM lesson, both of which relied on microcontrollers. I would love to share my knowledge with students eager to learn this material. $100/hour for one-on-one sessions. Group prices negotiable, access to an additional computer required for every student beyond one.

Hobbies

I've been teaching in some form since high school. I strongly believe in education's ability to empower people, and I love seeing students "get" a concept they've been struggling with. I currently conduct paid research on rehabilitation robotics at Columbia University. In my free time, I run and read, look for good new food to try (or try to cook), go to the movies and pub trivia nights, and build Arduino projects with my girlfriend.
