Education

New York University, B.A. Mathematics (2016-2020 (expected))

Experience

During my senior year of high school, I carried out research on the extremal function of forbidden patterns in 0-1 matrices with Dr. Jesse Geneson from MIT, where I partially solved a decade year old conjecture. I also researched on the game of hat of graphs with Professor Uriel Feige from the Weizmann Institute of Science. Finally, I researched on a topic related to polygonal outer billiards with Professor James Propp from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. For my research on the extremal functions of forbidden patterns in 0-1 matrices, I was selected as a finalist at the 2015 Intel IRIS National Science fair (A competition in India similar to Intel STS, and India's Intel ISEF team selection stage). When my professor first taught me a proof to nesbitt’s inequality, I was captivated by the beauty of mathematics. The simple yet elegant proof to nesbitt’s inequality was the first instance when I was mesmerized by math. I came to know that math was more than plugging in values and numbers to equations. Eventually, I carried out research in math to explore my interest. And that introduced me to research math, which is why I’ll be researching with a professor from the courant institute in the summer. I started the math club in high school to spread awareness of this part of math — most people in my school were fixated on solving equations or problems but not understand the process behind every step. I think that it’s important that people know what goes behind every step, the reason behind everything, which makes the subject more beautiful than people normally view it as. And that’s why I want to teach math. Being a member of my the rowing team, here at NYU, I’m aware of the teamwork and dedication required to a job to make is successful. I have gained a lot of important skills such as teamwork, dedication, and determination as a member of the rowing team. And I hope to inculcate those skills during my time working and learn other skills as well. I also assure you that I’ll do my best to accomplish what’s required of me.
