Education

I was an Eagle Scout, Valedictorian, and National Merit and AP Scholar before earning a full-ride scholarship to Grinnell College. I leveraged my AP classes for a full-year of college credit and graduated from Grinnell in 3 years with honors in two majors - History and Anthropology - and a concentration in astronomy. I made Dean’s List, Honor Roll, and All-Academic while there. I also worked as a writing and math tutor. In 2008 I earned a perfect score on the GRE which, along with my academic record and my writing ability, earned me acceptance to 4 Ivy Leagues, Stanford, and MIT. I took a full ride to Columbia University to pursue a PhD in anthropology and archaeoastronomy where I continued to work as a writing instructor in addition to TA’ing undergraduate and graduate courses in the Core Curriculum for Columbia College. I obtained two Masters and my PhD, graduating in 2016. While at Columbia I had an impressive track record of winning grants and scholarships including awards from the National Science Foundation, the Fulbright IIE, the Foreign Language Area Study fellowship, and the GSAS Travel Fellowship. I conducted a field project in Ecuador and Peru which led to a 3-year project studying the Inka around Cuzco. I published four articles, started the Anthropology Graduate Student Association, and headed a Spanish movie night.

Experience

I have 10+ years of teaching experience. I have taught in a range of capacities including being a Boy Scout leader, teaching swimming lessons and soccer clinics, and working at day camps. I have been tutoring at the high school and college level for 8+ years including as a university TA and lecturer. I scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT and ACT and got a perfect score on the GRE and this is my personal goal for my students. I am especially good at improving student writing and getting them the skills necessary to not only write good papers, but to compete for college application essays and earn scholarships, grants, and rewards.
