Education

B.A. - Political Science, Summa cum laude, Middlebury College (2007-2012) Post-baccalaureate, Premedical Program - Goucher College (2015-2016) M.D. - University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (expected 2021)

Experience

Hi, I'm Kyle. I graduated summa cum laude from Middlebury College in 2012, where I studied Political Science. I also took writing courses, tutored students in paper-writing, and completed an honors thesis. After graduating, I worked for three years doing human rights investigations in and on conflict and crisis zones before deciding I wanted to change course and become a physician! I completed an accelerated post-bac program at Goucher College where I took all the required pre-med courses: General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry I & II, Physics I & II, Biochemistry, and Biology I & II. I also studied for and completed the (new) MCAT in June 2016. I'll be starting medical school at the University of California - San Francisco (UCSF) this coming summer! Because I came from a non-science background, I know how intimidating being a science student can feel, especially to those who think that they're not naturally "good" at science. I enjoy the process of working through concepts together, coming up with memory tricks, and identifying the key elements of complex topics. I am also excellent and working with student writers to edit and produce papers that are logical and flow well, and helping you get to your own writing voice. I've taken AP Chemistry, General Chemistry I & II, Biochemistry, and Organic Chemistry I & II. I know how challenging these topics can be and I aim to help the beginner chemist in high school and introductory college courses gain a grasp of the "language" of chemistry and its patterns. The most important part of chemistry is practice! I have a huge amount of material to draw from to use in our sessions. Writing was my strong suit in college, and I often wrote and edited reports in my job doing human rights research. I worked as a writing tutor for freshmen at Middlebury College, and I am happy to work with you to strengthen a paper, brainstorm ideas, edit, and proofread. I am also willing to look at personal statements for college and graduate school applications, as I have extensive experience writing these. I went from having zero science background to scoring in the 90th percentile or higher on each section of my MCAT exam. I have written practice MCAT passages for an MCAT test-preparation company so I know how the exam is written, and can give you insight into how the test-makers think. I'm also happy to develop an MCAT study plan with you. Please contact me to learn more - I'm excited to work with students in a variety of subjects to help you achieve your goals!
