Experience
I am an undergraduate student and tutor with a wide skill set in working with students from many different backgrounds. I have tutored elementary level and middle school students, and I teach SAT preparation for those about to enter the college world. My background in education is through volunteering and founding after school tutoring programs for students and teachers alike. My method for tutoring utilizes the strengths already possessed by each student as a building block to success. The combination of study strategies, incorporating interests, and the knowledge already possessed by the student has a significant impact on the student's test performance and scholastic achievement. Some of the subjects that I tutor are American History, English, SAT Preparation, Grammar and Mechanics, Literature, General Mathematics, GED studies, and Writing composition. I am currently a student at Hunter College in New York working towards my bachelor's degree in Political Science with a double minor in Gender Studies and English. I have the distinction of being in the Thomas Hunter Honors Program and the Roosevelt Scholars Public Policy Institute program. I also work for the campus literary magazine as the editor-in-chief. When I am not in class or teaching, I spend my time listening to music, playing basketball, and eating tamales/cooking.
