ExperienceI studied Child Psychology for my undergraduate degree at St. Joseph's College in Long Island, New York. I continued on to St. John's University in New York where I completed my master's of Advanced Studies degree in Literacy. I am a certified teacher in New York state in literacy, general education, and special education for children from birth to sixth grade. I have been a substitute teacher in Long Island for more than five years. Through substitute teaching, I have been able to get experience with curriculums and topics for all school age levels from kindergarten to twelfth grade. I have also spent time tutoring elementary and middle school students through a grant provided by the No Child Left Behind initiative. This experience of tutoring was very rewarding and successful as it allowed me to work with students both individually and in small groups over long periods. I was able to track along with the students and form connections with them that aided our tutoring sessions. I challenge myself to make tutoring fun, and I incorporate technology whenever I can. I use my iPad and laptop to show presentations, applications, videos, and websites that help augment our learning sessions. I am flexible, easy going, and I believe in using hands-on learning whenever possible.
