Experience

According to Dr. Najah Abu Orabi, the head of the Arabic language program at CIEE Amman, I received the highest proficiency score ever recorded in the history of the 20 year-old program! •Arabic Legal Translation/Assistant ESOP Law Group, San Francisco, CA Spring 2015. •Arabic Legal Interpreter-Yemeni Families in Crisis, Freelance, Ongoing, NYC. September 2016-Present. I am an actor which means I am always on the hunt for stimulating part-time work. Through my tutoring/teaching experiences at McKinley Elementary School and Indiana University, I realized that I want to be a resource for knowledge and rigorous intellectual stimulation. My cousin is on the autism spectrum, and I've helped him with his reading and writing assignments for years. The patience required to teach different types of students, combined with the challenge of finding the connection between student and subject is its own reward. I possess finely-tuned communication skills to fit the needs of the student, and I relish working in the creative "flow" state, where a student and I are on a roll, learning and mastering the subject with ease after a lot of painstaking work! •I've done stand-up comedy in Arabic, twice, as the Host of the first and second annual Arabic Talent Shows at Indiana University. •Last year, I played 17 different characters-Arabic, English, and Hebrew-speaking, respectively, in a play that toured US Universities as part of a project about state violence and Black Lives Matter • I got an 83% on the Practice FSOT with no prior instruction. I plan to take the real test June 3. And study this time, obviously! • I excelled at all the Arabic classes offered at Indiana University, an institution that teaches 72 languages, so I got permission to take an Arabic Pedagogy class for Masters students, in addition to a course on Arabic Cinema, again for Masters students and of course taught entirely in Arabic.

Hobbies

When I am not studying Arabic, I am auditioning for Broadway shows, doing stand-up comedy in Brooklyn, playing guitar in my rock band, or working hard to stay in shape with P90x! I also do voice-over for video games, and spent the last summer in Los Angeles shooting 5 episodes of a new TV series to be released in the Spring! I love working with kids and adults. My acting and other passions inform my tutoring, for example, there is a trick I have to pronouncing the Arabic letter "ع" that involves a Kermit the Frog impression.
