Experience

I am a NYS Certified Special Education & General Education teacher. I have my licenses and my Masters Degree +30 in Special Education Birth-2 and General Education Birth-2 as well as Special Education K-6 and General Education K-2. My love for teaching started very young. I babysat, nannied and tutored children all throughout my high-school, college, and graduate school career and I knew teaching was not only my passion but my calling in life. There is nothing better to me than seeing my students learn, grow and succeed throughout the school year. I am currently an 8th year ICT teacher in second grade specializing in students with special needs. I teach elementary reading, writing, and math, as well as test prep for the state ELA and Math Exams (grades 3-6). I have taught test prep for ELA and Math during after-school, Saturday School and Summer School for over 5 years now. I am trained in both the Wilson Fundations® program and the Fountas & Pinnell Literacy™ program and have used it throughout my teaching career. Based on the Wilson Reading System® principles, Wilson Fundations® provides research-based materials and strategies essential to a comprehensive reading, spelling, and handwriting program. Fountas & Pinnell Literacy™ is designed for high-quality literacy instruction. I am able to provide materials if need be. Common Core Learning Standards have been a part of my teaching career for the past 3 years. I have had to align all lesson plans, student goals and IEP's to the common core standards. I also teach test prep for the ELA and Math tests grades 3-6 that are common core aligned. I have been a special education teacher for the past 6 years. My Masters degree specializes in Students with Disabilities (Behavior and Learning Disorders). I have a license in Special Education Birth-6th grade as well as a license for General Education. I am certified in ABA training and have experience with students who are diagnosed with Autism, ADD/ADHD, emotional disturbed, learning disabled, speech and language and OHI. I will differentiate the tutoring sessions based on the students needs and capabilities. Progress reports are provided as well as assessments, and homework if I feel the child may need extra help on a specific subject.
