Education
I have a PhD in English with a certificate in American Studies from the CUNY Graduate Center. For my dissertation I wrote about early American novels from 1790-1850 and the figure of the elective orphan. I also have an MFA in poetry from the New School University, and a BA in English from University of California at Santa Cruz, where I graduated with highest honors.
Experience
I have 15 years of experience teaching writing and literature courses at the college level at NYU, Fordham University, and Barnard College. As part of my teaching responsibilities I work one-one-one with students, and those are often my favorite and most memorable interactions. My two fields are early American Literature and contemporary poetry. I am also a published author of both creative and academic writing. I love working one-on-one with students on their writing, and find that the college application essays are often enjoyable to work on together.
