Experience
As a native Spanish speaker I tutored English for a couple years, specially for students preparing for the TOEFL test. Always with great results. Since I taught English myself I came up with really fun and strategic ideas to memorize and practice that work really good with kids. I have tutored only a couple students for Spanish and it felt much more natural than English! You can really tell the difference when you are asked about native language. However, my biggest experience is as flute teacher and performer. I have been fortunate to perform for, teach at, and learn from a variety of arts organizations throughout the world. At the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia, I served as the Youth Program Assistant and Fundamentals of Music Monitor, instructing flutists and leading general music courses for college and children’s classes. In addition, I worked at the Gobernación del Quindío to encourage and motivate young musicians, many of them affected by violence in Colombia, to untie, through art, from the unrest. I also have extensive experience and accomplishment in flute performance. I was awarded the first prize in the “Concurso Universitario de flauta de Bogotá,” the premiere flute competition in Colombia, as well as first prizes and high placements in numerous other international flute competitions. I also frequently perform with the Colombia Symphony Orchestra and the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra, and have performed in the United States, Tokyo, Israel and Rome. I view instruction as rewarding and cherish the adventurous nature of teaching. I very much enjoy helping people in anyway possible to get past any barrier and I am equally as confident that I can serve as an effective teacher and mentor in this subjects.
