Hobbies
I am a member of Columbia University's A Cappella group, "Sparknotes." I have also been in a six-woman Penatonix style group called the Vinyls, and I founded a Coed group at University of Hartford called, "HartAttack." I enjoy singing, songwriting, playing ukulele and guitar. I love the process and collaborating with others including students. I recently was part of an original production through Literacy Unbound, which re-mixed Chopin's "The Awakening" with 12 teachers and 12 students acting as players. I am extremely interested in collaboration through different modalities, and the art of "remix." I have 11+ years of public speaking experience and it is my passion. I competed in High School and was a state champion, as well as 3rd in the nation in Oral Interpretation of Literature. I have been judging at the national circuit, and coaching since I graduated in 2009. I have a plethora of experience in acting within drama and musicals and love the play that happens within rehearsal of any kind, be it an English classroom, or a Main Stage performance. I am passionate about differentiation and discovering the gifts of students with exceptionalities. I am particularly interested in ADD/ADHD advocacy. I am highly engaged in social justice activism. I view teaching English as teaching social justice through literature and writing. I love creating. I make candles, lamps, visual art, poems, songs, you name it, I've tried it. I love thinking about the process, and helping others adopt and refine creative process' that aid them in their work.
