Eddie S.
Private tutor in New York, NY
Education
I have a Master's degree in Education, a Bachelor's degree in Writing and Media/Rhetoric. I was recruited into a competitive teaching fellowship and won the Americorps Education awards twice. I have official training in IB, AP, Common Core, TOEFL, IELTS etc. I also teach Financial Literacy and sit on the board of a non-profit that advocates for practical finance-based education worldwide.
Experience
I have worked in schools around the world, not only as a teacher, but later as a leader and curriculum designer. I have taught everything from International Baccalaureate to AP to Common Core to IELTS/TOEFL. My students are consistently successful, partially because I understand the various struggles students face with a variety of subjects, and partially because I treat each student individually. I encourage them to build their skill set by capitalizing upon their strengths. I tutor in my free time because I think I have a knack for helping people achieve goals as efficiently as possible, which is the tutor I sought when I was a student. I have various classes online with thousands of students, to which you can refer if you're curious about my demeanor or style, so there are no 'surprises' about what I bring to the table. My goal is for you to reach your goal, and I humbly state that my goals are typically met. But don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Hobbies
What has made me so successful throughout my 10+ teaching career is that I try to deconstruct challenging academics into their simplest form, then build upwards from there. This makes it easier for students to digest, and quickly establishes a foundation to build upon. Many times, students struggle because they deem the content dull, disengaging, verbose, confusing or otherwise intimidating. I have an excellent track record of helping to undermine such struggles by helping students better comprehend and embrace the fundamentals of what needs to be learned. Because I was once a disengaged student myself, I have focused on making education as accessible as possible. I am a charismatic personality, always energetic and incorporate creative approaches to teaching. I constantly evaluate what works and what doesn't, then adjust accordingly. My success as an English teacher has allowed for my progression from teacher to leader, then curriculum developer and subsequently academic head. I have worked nationally and internationally, with students of all types and motivations. I've also worked with ESL students ( as well as those with IEPs), in addition to those studying specific areas such as debate, public speaking, literature, creative writing etc.
