Experience
As an educator, I believe that the most important part of being an effective teacher is being able to help students reach their goals in the classroom as well as out in the world - especially when it comes to teaching a second language. I come from a bilingual family with ties in both the United Kingdom and France. I received my degree from University College London in French language and literature. Shortly after graduating, I spent a year abroad living and working in Martinique, where I taught English to local children in a middle school setting. In addition to my work in Martinique, I also tutored a number of people in London and New York who were interested in improving their English skills or learning French. I believe that the best way to be an effective language teacher is to be patient, listen to students' problems and try to understand challenges from the perspective of the pupil. Not everyone learns languages the same way, which is why it's important to come up with a teaching style that's optimal for the individual - especially when you're tutoring in a one-on-one setting. When I'm not teaching, I like to spend my time gardening, cycling, and swimming.
