Experience
Teaching has always been a passion of mine. In addition to being a TA for several classes at Cornell, I specialize on working with younger students at local middle and high schools. I was homeschooled by my parents and was taught first hand how important the core basics are to helping you succeed in higher level education. One of the most rewarding things I find about teaching it helping a student reach that "Aha" moment... not because I told them, but because they discovered it themselves. My goal as a teacher to help a student improve skills right from their classes and studies by adding a real life dimension. This helps add value to learning that adds excitement because a student now has a sense of purpose and reason to be learning - now, they're engaged in learning. As an Engineer, Geometry is a pinnacle skill. I apply it every day in my studies and research at Cornell whether I'm building a tools for astronauts or studying the structures of polymers on a molecular level. Being an engineer where I utilize this skills daily, allows me to be uniquely qualified to teach the concepts of Geometry. You'd be surprised how important it is to be a great writer when you're an Engineer. If you think about it, if you have a great idea but can't communicate it well through writing a proposal or to find resources, you can't really do anything with that idea. That's why good writing - by that I mean writing that is grammatically correct and has cohesive flow of thought - is crucial skill I've developed. Technical writing as an engineer takes much of the writing I do as a whole. The strongest portion of my SATs, I scored an 800 and was actually a former an English Major. I learned many of techniques whether it's creative writing for a short story or conveying a message through nonfiction recount of history. This rather diverse perspective on writing helps qualify me as an English tutor, even though I am an engineer.
