Experience
I received my bachelor's degree in Spanish and history from Swarthmore College. Since then, I've been living in New York City and working in the performing arts, while also preparing to enroll in a graduate-level program at the University of Oxford covering Latin American Studies. As a student, I had the privilege to study abroad in Granada, Spain, where I not only lived with a host family and learned about Spanish culture, but also was able to gain teaching experience as an ESL teacher. My time abroad taught me the importance of lesson planning, classroom management, and helping students in a one-on-one setting. It also helped me discover just how much I enjoyed working as an educator, which is why tutoring has become one of my passions in life. As a teacher, I believe that everyone has the capacity to be a good student when they're able to work with a patient instructor who's willing to go the extra step to assist them with overcoming their challenges. For this reason, I work hard to find ways to teach material that students can relate to, so that they're not just memorizing definitions. That way, they're able to engage in the classroom and learn in a manner that works best for them.
