Yale University B.A. - Cognitive Science - GPA in Major 3.9 (3.75 overall)

Experience

I graduated from Yale this past May of 2015, earning a bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science. I have 4 years of experience with intensive, one-on-one tutoring -- all ages, pre-K through 12th! At Yale, I participated in a highly interdisciplinary Cognitive Science program, studying linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, and computer science. Yale prepared me with a wide range of analysis and writing skills, which have greatly assisted me in helping students improve their performance across a variety of academic skills and subjects! During my four years in New Haven at Yale, I worked with a total of over 40 different local public school students -- all ages, pre-K through high school -- who were struggling in their academic work. I partnered with individual students on a long-term basis (about 6 students every semester), focusing on finding creative ways to improve critical thinking, reading, and math skills, providing homework help, improving their grades in problem subjects... and -- most importantly -- getting my students excited and confident about learning again! I love working with students to help develop academic skills and make test-taking and learning a rewarding, stress-free, fun, and productive experience. I've had a lot of success over the years helping students complete academic work that they can be proud of. From my time at Yale, I have considerable experience working with peer-editing and review. With older students (high school and university), I am especially well-prepared to work on a broad range of writing skills. I can work effectively and quickly to accomplish measurable gains on the following skills: brainstorming, accurately addressing writing prompts/assignments, planning and structuring essays and papers, productive revision and editing, utilizing powerful language and effective arguments, improved sentence-to-sentence flow, and improved expression of complex and original thoughts! I am very well-prepared to provide guidance with crafting competitive college application essays, and tackling standardized testing (personal SAT score of 2330 and ACT score of 34). Improving education and learning experiences for students around the world is a great passion of mine. I have engaged in Development Psychology research with young children at Yale, as well as attended international reading/dyslexia & neuroeducation conferences, and conducted further research focusing on Early Childhood Education!
