Education

Massachusetts Institute of Technology: BS: Physics BS: Brain and Cognitive Science Minor: Theatre Arts My education at MIT has given me an extensive background in all the basic sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) as well as the math required to fully understand these topics. My study the nature of learning and the brain so I am uniquely qualified to teach math and science. My education has given me an intimate understanding of the sciences as well as the strategies and methods that best enable students to retain that knowledge themselves. Additionally my theatre arts background has taught me how to engage and excite my students. By getting students excited about math and science I motivate and inspire students to push through their initial frustrations and achieve success.

Experience

I have 6 years of tutoring experience in the New York Area. I have tutored students in math from algebra to calculus and in all of the sciences up to the AP level in high school as well as first and second year math and science at the college level. I have helped students excel in their class work as well as improve scores for standardized tests. I guarantee a 100 point increase for SAT I Math as well as any SAT subject test that I tutor. I love working with students through difficult problems. I work alongside students and solve problems with them, not for them. I strive to create a collaborative environment where the student feels supported and able to try problems on their own, building confidence that they can tackle even the most challenging topics. Hobbies

I have been involved in every type of activity from athletics to the arts since high school. I was a quarterback on the MIT football team (yes they do really exist) and president of the MIT improv troupe, dabbled in photography and visual arts a well as wrote, performed and directed multiple theatre performances (not all at the same time) in Boston as well as New York City even taking a performance to England as a part of an exchange program with Cambridge University. I love the arts and have long been interested in the intersection between the arts and sciences. I use a lot of real life examples and demonstrations in my lessons as a way to generate interest that goes beyond the classroom and the current assignment or upcoming test.
