Experience
I have worked with a variety of students from grades k-12 over the past 7 years. I am currently a high school special education teacher for the New York City Department of Education. Before becoming a teacher I was a teaching assistant at an inclusion program at a charter school that served grades K-1. I have worked with students in special education and students in general education. As a special educator, I have had to break down complex skills and content as well as individualizing the way I teach in order to make learning accessible for a variety of learning styles. Using differentiation and scaffolding I am able to teach across grade levels and subject areas.

Hobbies
School was difficult for me. I struggled to make sense of difficult concepts and requirements. Because I had teachers that recognized that I had potential, I was able to succeed in school. My experiences taught me that everyone has the ability to develop and learn. what makes for successful learning is the realization that it is possible. The key is determining how we learn best. students must build a relationship to what they are learning and too often subject material is passed on to students without encouraging them to really connect with it. I hope to be able to use this thinking to bridge the gap between potential and achievement.
