Experience
Hello my name is Concetta Abbate, I am a NYC based violinist and composer. As an undergraduate I studied Anthropology in Mexico under an international travel grant through Smith College. I began to learn more about latin styles of music and culture. Today I am a working musician and composer. I perform with Mariachi, Salsa and South American fusion bands. I am currently pursuing an MA in education at Columbia University Teacher's college. I enjoy being a mentor and guiding students through the learning process. I feel that teaching is a mutually beneficial relationship Not only to I have guidance to offer my students, I have much to learn from them as well. Being a good teacher means catering to different learning styles, being able to look at one subject from many different angles, being able to explain something in several different ways. I have become a better person through this kind of analysis of the world. We live in a competitive society where testing and grades seem to matter more than ever. I will help you get the grades you need while still inspiring creative thought and inquiry.

Hobbies
I am a teacher who does not give answers, rather I ask questions until the student deduces the answer through their own reasoning. I challenge my students to be creative and independent thinkers so that they can problem solve their way through any subject. I can be rigorous in my expectations but am also likely to spend a little time chatting in each session, asking how your day was. I am an autodidact and therefore have great suggestions and study tips to help students teach themselves, research and find the information they need.
