I became a civil and environmental engineer because I want to improve our world. Engineering was not my original goal, but as I experienced more of nature, I grew to love it and determined that environmental science was going to be my career. Physics and environmental studies were my favorite classes, and the combination of the two fueled my ambition for engineering. The first physics course I took was extremely difficult for me and I struggled in it. As I persevered, I learned study techniques and real world application for the subjects we discussed. I discovered that getting back to basics and building on a foundation is essential for understanding the more advanced elements of any topic. This is the approach I take in tutoring. I make sure my students get a firm grasp of the basics so they can be in a position to learn the more advanced parts of the class. I share my experience with them as an encouragement that they can follow. The hard work that I put in serves to prepare my students for the more challenging tasks which await them.
