Education

MFA in Playwriting, Columbia University, 2015. BA (Double Major) in English Lit and Theatre, University of Virginia, 2012.

Experience

I've worked as a teacher and counselor for students from age 8-48, and always try to learn as much as I teach. I served as a counselor at the American Shakespeare Center's Young Company during the summers from 2011-Now, shepherding 30+ 13-18-year-olds in a performance intensive and assisting with lectures on history, literature, Shakespeare, and workshops in acting and performance (as well as music, acrobatics, dance, stage combat, and playwriting). At a camp for 8-13-year-olds in Washington DC I taught classes on theatre history and poetry. In NYC, I mentored undergraduate students in playwriting and led a seminar for students at Barnard College. Most recently, I occasionally substitute teach Math or English in a GED Preparatory Program for adults in Manhattan (where I worked primarily as an administrative assistant). My passion for teaching students of all ages stems primarily from a desire to emulate the wise mentors and teachers who supported me and, in my opinion, are responsible for much of my present success and peace of mind. They were inspiring in their readiness to learn and teach, and I seek out opportunities as an educator so that I can try, in my own way, to follow in their footsteps.

Hobbies

Besides teaching, I'm primarily engaged as a professional playwright, actor, and theatre-maker in NYC -- I've acted in more than 40 plays, and enjoyed performances of more than 20 plays I've written. So, in case it wasn't too obvious, my chief passion is for the arts (performing arts especially, but I like 'em all). Besides being an avid theatre-goer, I love to read (SciFi, Fantasy, Classics, fiction, nonfiction, travel brochures), and keep up with the world of art, music, and anything else that fits in the pop culture/social media blender. I'm a die-hard film-buff (classics, arthouse, and blockbusters alike), and love to get lost in a wormhole talking about a good movie, a great book, or whatever -- and to hear what inspires and thrills everyone around me, especially young people just starting to figure out what they love.
