Experience
I have a master's in education, which I earned while I was a NYC Teaching Fellow. During that time, I also became certified to teach secondary school. In my first school year teaching, I raised the school's scores in the science department 250%. That was the highest passing rate for a state standardized test that the Bronx prep school had ever seen. I set the bar high for my students, with the expectation that students will rise to the challenge. Throughout my teaching career, I have lead various students of different grade levels and academic histories to reach their goals. My history as a tutor goes back to my own high school years, working as a peer tutor for high achieving students. I would like to think that my communication and education abilities have only grown since those years. I am particularly good at the development of lesson plans that cater to each student's specific needs. I continued tutoring throughout undergrad, helping out at a high school. This led to a full-time tutoring and mentoring position with AmeriCorps in Los Angeles. Nowadays, I am studying for my doctorate in international development and urban planning at Columbia University. In my free time, I enjoy cycling and traveling.
