Alan S.
Private tutor in New York, NY
Education
I graduated cum laude (with honors) from Yale University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree and Distinction in the major of Applied Math with concentrations in Computer Science, Economics, and Electrical Engineering. Prior to college, I tested into and attended 7th and 8th grade at Hunter College High School before matriculating to Stuyvesant High School for the remainder of my high school career.
Experience
With 10+ years of private tutoring and college counseling experience, I've helped my students get into Harvard, Columbia, Duke, University of Pennsylvania, Amherst, Cornell, and many more as well as 7-year med school programs. My areas of greatest experience include test prep (SAT, ACT, SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE, GMAT), math (from algebra to calculus), chemistry, physics, and economics and finance. My strength is test taking. In fact, I took both the SHSAT, New York City's specialized high school test, and Hunter College High School entrance exams without any preparation whatsoever and got into Stuyvesant and Hunter, respectively. I can teach your child how to ace standardized exams like I have. Unlike many other tutors, I am highly sociable and likeable. My students love me. What they learn from me goes beyond the subject material on which they need help. They learn how to study, ace tests, research, choose the right college, analyze career prospects, manage finances, and approach life with a positive attitude. Additionally, I have professional technology experience in enterprise application design and development, and financial analysis, planning and management, and recruiting and staffing.

Hobbies
I love to travel, work out, and spend time with my family. I'm an avid investor. I love acquiring real estate properties, whether as fix and flips, or for rental purpose, and have experience investing in Las Vegas, Brooklyn, and Atlanta. I study the financial markets and am well versed both in technical and fundamental analysis, swing trading, momentum trading, trend trading, pair trading, and hedging. My trading and investing experience spans commodities (precious metals, agricultural, and energy), stocks (indices, sectors, individual issues), options (on futures, indices, bonds, and stocks), and bonds. I also tend to think creatively about random subjects such as what will happen decades from now when computers finally realize they're smarter than we. Above all, I'm eternally optimistic and very energetic, humble, affable, and amiable.
