Private tutor in New York, NY
Education
B.A. in Political Science at UC Berkeley, graduated with honors (GPA: 3.89). I also took several history, classics, literature, and creative writing courses. M.A., Ph.D. in Political Science at Columbia University, with emphases in American Politics and Quantitative Methodology. Also took some limited law school coursework. I then did my postdoctoral work at Washington University in St. Louis.
Experience
I was the preceptor for the Columbia University Senior Honors Seminar in American Politics for the 2013-14 academic year, helping senior honors students to write and revise their original senior theses of original research. While a graduate student, I taught my own class on Law & Public Policy during the Columbia University 2014 summer session. While a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Washington University in St. Louis, I taught an undergraduate course on Bureaucratic Politics (it's cooler than it sounds!). As a Lecturer in Political Science at Yale, I taught the undergraduate courses Introduction to Statistics in Political Science and Courts, Media & Politics and the graduate seminar American Political Institutions. I was then a Summer Instructor on US Constitutional Law In the Columbia University Summer Program for High School Students. In all of these courses, I thrived on helping students to meet and even exceed their academic goals, and I received outstanding teaching evaluations. Prior to graduate school, I assisted with teaching a college essay writing workshop in San Francisco, along with assisting with creative writing and journalism workshops for students ages 8-18. While in college, I provided part-time tutoring for elementary and high school students with learning difficulties as well as ESL. I provided occasional tutoring services in essay writing/editing on a number of different subjects during my time in graduate school in NYC. When I took the SAT, I received a perfect writing score of 800. (Other scores were 710 Verbal/700 Math). Because my political science research spans a long time period, I have deep knowledge of United States history, law, and politics. When not working, I have also done extensive creative writing, both independently and in workshops with NYC's 92nd Street Y, and have published a short story as well as op-eds in such outlets as the NY Times, The Guardian, and Washington Post. Thus, I have ample experience both producing and assisting others with creative and nonfiction writing.
