*** FREE EVALUATION AVAILABLE*** Does your student dread writing assignments and procrastinate in doing them? Does he get poor grades on papers and theses, even though he knows the subject matter. Is she overwhelmed and off in a thousand directions in writing an admissions essay for her dream college—none of them leading to a completed product? I have been a professional journalist my entire adult life. Here are some recent columns from my day job: http://www.dmnews.com/direct-line-blog/san-andreas-fails-to-capture-the-true-horror-of-a-crumbling-california/article/417002/ http://www.dmnews.com/direct-line-blog/political-marketing-is-in-good-hands-with-hillary/article/409312/ I'm a practitioner, not a teacher, but as chief editor of several magazines, I developed a method to cure writer's block that I've found works with most people. I can make anybody a better writer, and a better writer is a more successful student and professional. It’s a simple three step process, and while it requires much practice and many iterations, it involves no huge grammar tomes or boring stylebooks. I don’t believe good writers come out of pre-set molds. My process helps locate the writer that’s in everybody and release it—in polished and publishable form. I have grown children of my own and spent many hours helping craft their writing skills in high school. They were all diligent, intelligent kids, but none was at the top of the class. What they all could do at a fairly high level, though, was write clearly and interestingly. It’s worked out well for them. My oldest son is now director of communications of a well-know cable TV network, my second son is a staffer on The Tonight Show, and my daughter is a successful sales executives at a large marketing services company. Professionally, I write about digital marketing and technology, and I have a good grasp on how young people communicate. The communications styles they develop on short format texts and social media can lead to bad habits--and poor grades--in an academic environment. It doesn’t have to be that way. Just about anyone who can read and write can learn to write better. Send me an email and let’s set up a free evaluation and get started.
