I have not only taught a wide range of writing subjects, but I have also worked extensively in the writing and publishing industry, providing me with a wealth of knowledge that is up-to-date with the latest industry trends. I have taught English to high school students in the South Bronx at Metropolitan High School, where I was part of the faculty that ensured students were passing the ELA Regents examinations at a higher than average rate. We achieved this by creating a set of imaginative writing assignments designed to instill confident reading and writing skills in our students. I also helped to develop a course designed to prepare students for college, doing everything possible to make sure they were motivated enough to score highly on admissions testing and to really think about which direction they wanted to go in terms of their career and education. I also worked as a production manager for ten years, helping to prepare texts for the global marketplace. Drawing upon both my experience in the business side of writing and my years spent as a teacher, I am able to adequately prepare students to write at a professional level, a skill that will serve them in whatever career they decide to pursue.
