I am a 27 year old graduate from the University of Toronto. I hold an Honours Degree majoring in Women and Gender Studies, minoring in English/Sociology. I was the recipient of the 2015 Marion and Ross Woodman Award for Academic Excellence. I have a graduating average of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.
Experience
I have extensive tutoring experience: -June 2015-Ongoing: I currently work as on Online Tutor for Frontier College. I offer face-to-face tutoring to students using the Virtual Learning Centre. This position requires me to navigate a sophisticated online interface in addition to using my skills as a teacher in order to create a dynamic, creative exchange between myself and the student. -2013-2015: One-to-One tutor for differently abled youth/adult students, also with Frontier College. This position saw me paired with one student per academic year who I worked with as an academic aid. It was my duty to ensure the student understood the lesson and could complete tasks assigned by the teacher. I was also required to plan and teach specialized curriculums. -2012-2015: Assistant ESL Teacher in a high school classroom. I planned and taught ESL curriculums in a program designed to help immigrant students transition into the Toronto school system. I worked in a variety of academic subjects, all of them tailored towards English language acquisition. -2013-2014: Tutor and Mentor at the STEP (Safer Tomorrows through Education and Play) after school program. I helped students aged 10-19 in a variety of ways, from simple homework help and essay organization to thesis creation and final projects. I also helped older students with their university and job applications and often worked as a counsellor regarding personal issues.
