Experience

I have been a tutor/graduate teaching assistant for over 3 years. As an undergrad at St. Mary’s College of Maryland I worked as a teaching assistant in general chemistry and organic chemistry labs. This work included helping the students with both their classroom work as well as their lab work. I would also help tutor many of my fellow students in the various chemistry classes that I took in undergrad. In graduate school at Northwestern, I was a teaching assistant for general chemistry and in this role I was fully in charge of 15 students as they worked through their experiments. I also would have official office hours in which I would help the students with all of their class work and lab write-ups. I have passion for learning and I try to always pass on this passion to others. In graduate school I worked in a lab which brought together students and postdocs from a variety of backgrounds from organic chemistry to theoretical physics. As I had a diverse educational background myself, I often acted as an intermediary and would help teach one side the skill set the other side possessed. This led to very exciting collaborative work being produced through the merging of ideas from biology, chemistry, and physics. In undergrad I would often work with my fellow students outside of class to understand the material. I did not do this for money, but rather because I enjoyed passing on information to others as I believe that the sharing of knowledge is one of the most important things that can be done between people. I feel that I will be a great tutor because I have a studied many different topics in math and science and enjoy passing on of information to others. Relevant classes completed: Inorganic Chemistry Organic Chemistry Physical Chemistry Analytical Chemistry Quantum Mechanics Thermal Physics Classical Mechanics Electricity and Magnetism I won the department awards in both physics and analytical chemistry at St. Mary's College and was the lead of two major chemistry grants through the national science foundation (NSF) and the defense advanced research projects agency (DARPA) at Northwestern University.
