Education
In May 2015, I graduated from SUNY New Paltz with both a B.Sc. in physics and chemistry, and a B.A. in biology and mathematics (in which my subject GPA was a 3.4/4.0). I am currently attending graduate school at the City College of New York for mathematics, where I now have a 4.0/4.0 GPA.
Experience
I began tutoring in February 2010, at Orange County Community College (OCCC). Around October 2010, I left OCCC to begin tutoring privately, and have continued to do so since. I have tutored children and adults from many age ranges, from children just entering elementary school, to adult professionals looking to change careers. I have the most experience tutoring high school and early college level subjects, but I have tutored subjects in elementary education all the way through advanced, upper-division mathematics and sciences. One very rewarding thing about tutoring, for me, is when my students tell me that I make connections in the material that they had never seen before and that it helps them to actually understand what they are learning, rather than to just memorize it long enough to take the next test. I really love making the things that I am knowledgeable in accessible to others. Those who believe they are "bad" at math or science are merely lacking practice and guidance. You simply need the right tools to help you to succeed and achieve your own full potential. Having dealt with Attention Deficit disorder my entire life, I know what it is like for students with ADHD to feel frustrated with school. I find it really exciting whenever I see my students responding to and involved in what I am teaching, and especially so when I am successful in engaging a student with ADHD who would not otherwise be "present" during the learning experience. While challenging, I have had much success with students like me who struggle with ADHD. I can think like they do, and I know how important it is to keep them constantly engaged, interested, and immersed in the subject at hand.
