CERTIFICATIONS: New York State Certification Childhood Education, Grade 1-6 Effective: September 2013 Literacy Assistance Center – New York, New York Adult Literacy Education Core Curriculum (ALECC) Certification Earned: NYSED-AEWD Certificate, June 2011 WHY TUTORING? I am committed to the notion that education is the cornerstone of any endeavor we embark upon. Countless students have struggled at some point on their respective journeys. I'd like to think that tutoring, is an avenue that facilitates a safe space for any learner to gain confidence in their academic ability, along the way. As a teacher, I have found that my students who have spent time with someone outside of the classroom, return to class with increased participation and work production. Small groups or one-to-one tutoring sessions allow learners the opportunities to accumulate those small pockets of success; building confidence in themselves, their abilities, knowledge and understanding of a subject. Additionally, as a parent of 'tween' and teenage students, I understand that students may not always be as receptive to the help parents extend. I have come appreciate the fact that there are others who are equally as committed to my children's success, as I am. EXPERIENCE: Currently, I am a full-time 7th grade math teacher in a Bronx public middle school. I have been teaching in the Department of Education for 2 academic years. In this position, I use formative and summative student assessment data to guide standards-based unit and lesson development. Additionally, I implement various differentiation methods to address the needs of students classified as English Language Learners (ELLs) and those with Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Prior to working in the Department of Education, I competed a year-long teaching fellowship in a Bronx elementary (1st Grade, Special Education), as well as facilitated adult classes in civics and basic education. I am a US Air Force veteran of 8 years.

Hobbies

HOBBIES: I greatly enjoy photography, music and cooking. I am fitness oriented and run often. When I'm not working, I prefer to spend my time with my family doing things they enjoy. INTERESTS: As a child I lived in Germany and traveled quite a bit, this has caused me to be interested in many cultures and languages. I also have developed an amazing fascination for neuroscience; understanding how humans 'work', fuels my interest in education and the subsequent implications.
