I have had the great pleasure of tutoring and teaching ever since I arrived in NYC from out west. I have a real passion for literacy and language, which is borne out by my CELTA certification and experience as an ESL teacher, which is one of the first teaching experiences I had. Lately my concentration has been on middle school and high school students. I work with them on the humanities and language arts. I also tutor individually for the TOEFL, SAT, and AP tests. In the past I have been involved with public schools by being in charge of literacy-based residencies.To me, it is rewarding to get a student to discover just the right approach that works best for their learning. I enjoy finding new ways to tailor my tutoring so that it matches up with their particular needs. My philosophy is that a tutor provides students with skills they can use far into the future.As an undergraduate I studied Theater and Performance Studies at the Berkeley campus of the University of California. My MFA in Acting comes from the University of Washington; I attended the Seattle campus.When I have some free time, I write plays and act. I also enjoy watching films, cooking, and traveling to new and exotic places.
