As a graduate student working toward a degree in the BS/M SEd Special/Early Education program at SUNY Plattsburgh, I am passionate about working with students in the K-5 age range with special learning needs. I am currently a student teacher in New York City, fulfilling the final requirements for my degree. Over the previous four years, I have had the opportunity to work in different special education classroom situations, including K-5 classes and an 8-1-2 special ed classroom. This experience has allowed me to acquire hands-on practice in developing and teaching lesson plans, assisting students in class and also with their homework, as well as teaching small group lessons. My concentration is mathematics, and my tutoring experience has been in this area as well as in reading, both at the elementary level. I especially value working with students on the basics: phonics, reading, and writing, as these are an essential foundation for future learning. I am also a great resource for preparing for standardized tests such as the SSAT and the ISEE. Since my focus is special education, I work under the imperative that addressing the individual student is key, and understand the importance of creating a positive space in which the student feels engaged and encouraged. On my own time, I like to read, ski, hike, and run.
