Francesca N.
Private tutor in New York, NY
Education
High school diploma from Concord Academy; BA from Sarah Lawrence College with a concentration in English; resident at the Juniper Institute for poetry in 2013; awarded the Andrea K. Willison Poetry Prize in 2013
Experience
I have lead workshops and worked one-on-one with high school students studying poetry. I am great at close-reading, essay writing, vocabulary, grammar etc. -- all aspects of high school (and college) level English. I am not an SAT tutor. I am a very friendly, upbeat 24 year old English major who can help your child enjoy and understand challenging pieces of literature and take on intimidating assignments. I can help them understand how to better edit their work. This also applies for College application essays.

Hobbies
I work primarily as an archivist and personal assistant in the poetry and non-fiction fields. I am very organized and communicative. I am also kind and funny! I love working with young people to help get them excited about English. I read quickly and constantly, but understand how this can be a great challenge for some students. I would love to help your son or daughter find the path into a book or poem that feels daunting. Tracing a certain symbol, metaphor, or archetypal character through a book can help a student approach the text through a new lens. The same can be said for essay writing: developing a structure for a paper before writing it can help a student to feel less overwhelmed by the gravity of the assignment and feel more in control of what they are writing. I am a great listener and am sensitive to the experience of needing a tutor (I needed one in math when I was in high school).
