Experience
Tutoring is the most intimate and effective form of mentorship and teaching. I think of learning as a worthwhile adventure and not as a way to get good grades, make money, or prove our worth as human beings. Each person has particular passions and forms of intelligence; developing them and applying them to the real world is our daily challenge as lifelong students. I excelled in school mostly, I believe, because of a mix of curiosity, supportive parents, and a simple willingness to work. I scored a 2330 on my SATs and graduated from NYU in three years with a 3.9 GPA. After working as a nanny for one year and a kids' kung fu instructor for another, I became as a tutor and grammarian at the Writing Center of Northern Virginia Community College, mainly with adult ESL students. At the same time, in the 2013-2014 school year, I worked at C2 Education Centers tutoring students in reading and writing (mostly in the context of SAT prep). Throughout the last 5+ years, I've privately tutored students (ages 12-adult) one-on-one in ESL, writing, and German. I love helping writers and readers (and who isn't both?) develop their skills. Few pursuits are more valuable.
