Vanderbilt University - BS, Education Studies - English
A math, English, history, social studies, and test prep tutor, I've been studying how to teach students since in college. I attended Vanderbilt University and earned an Education Studies and English degree. Here, I learned the most effective ways to help secondary education students develop their literacy skills. We explored deficit learning, a teaching method common in today's schools, which highlights what a person does not know or is not capable of doing. Many students find this too overwhelming. My goal is to reverse this trend. I focus on the skills students have and use these to solve newer and even larger problems. In this capacity, I have worked with five year old kids up to post-doctorate level graduates. I offer positive energy at any tutoring session while trying to inspire my students to love learning. The subjects I cover include math ranging from algebra to differential equations, Advanced Placement, all levels of reading and writing, plus U.S. history, government, religious studies, study skills and organization, and even preparation for the GED, ISEE, PSAT, and SAT.Presently, I am residing in New York City and, when not working or studying, enjoy comedy, theatre, acting, improv, creative writing, and exercise.
