ExperienceMy own heritage has shaped my college major as well as my tutoring activities. My father is from Cape Town, South Africa, and my mother was born and raised in New Orleans. They both shared a rich family history with me, which fueled my love for history and culture. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in African Studies, with emphasis in history and religion from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. One summer while I was in college, I traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, and taught at an all-girls school. Because of my background and teaching experience, I can help students with American and World History and the AP exams associated with those subjects. After college, I tutored math in Richmond, Virginia. The humanities and math make strange bedfellows! When I tutored math, I strove to make it accessible to students so they could apply the concepts to a variety of problems. I am comfortable tutoring math students in elementary school. I can also tutor Algebra 1 and geometry at the high school level.I enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction works, writing, kickboxing, dancing, and watching Netflix.
