My goal in teaching is to give students confidence in their ability to learn by developing their basic skills. I am good at getting students interested in challenging subjects and making the material relevant. I don't think there is any subject that is too difficult to handle - the key is to take a complex problem and extract the basic concepts and steps it involves. This is possible when you have the right attitude. One strategy I use for tackling difficult material is to use an interdisciplinary approach, as this often helps students comprehend the ideas better. I have strengths in both art and science, so I strive to integrate both my creative and analytical abilities when I am teaching and creating course materials. One of my favorite parts of teaching is when students easily solve something complicated because they are enjoying the learning process while working on a project or experiment. My priority is to be passionate and creative with every subject, whether it's history and literature or science and research.When I'm not teaching, I am an activist for community outreach and environmental issues. I enjoy being active outdoors: hiking, rock climbing, biking, kayaking, SCUBA diving, and traveling.
