Experience
I attended Swarthmore College and graduated with a major in Mandarin Chinese and minors in Biology and Philosophy. I tutor students in a diverse range of subjects, standardized tests, and especially enjoy tutoring students in Mandarin Chinese. I have been studying Chinese since my freshman year of high school. My experience in Mandarin Chinese tutoring has ranged from teaching native Mandarin-speaking kids to read and write in Chinese to private Mandarin tutoring. I've also taught English to native Chinese speakers, so I have a deep understanding of both sides of language learning. In addition to Chinese, I am proficient at tutoring science, reading, math, and test preparation. I base my tutoring plans on the assigned curriculum, but I also encourage my tutees to seek out related materials they are interested in and to make their own connections with the material. I am passionate about linguistics, and spend much of my free time on an Afro-Asiatic linguistics project. In my remaining spare time, I like playing the saxophone and trombone, painting, hiking, gardening, and philosophy.
