Experience
A current Riverdale resident and native New Yorker, I attended P.S. 261 in Brooklyn and Friends Seminary in Manhattan from kindergarten through 12th grade. I graduated cum laude from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in 2002. Between 2000 and 2010, I studied and worked in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for a total of five years, during which I served in various capacities at the Two Brothers Foundation, a grassroots NGO providing educational services to the city's largest underprivileged community. Through that organization I spent thousands of hours in the classroom, teaching English as a foreign language as well as photography. I was responsible for designing engaging and effective lesson plans for students of all ages, academic backgrounds and abilities. In 2012, through the No Child Left Behind Act, I tutored Bronx public-school students between the ages of 11 and 14, all of whom were struggling--and in some instances disengaged--academically. Two of my students had been diagnosed with learning disabilities. We worked on ELA, Math and composition. Since graduating from college I have worked off and on as a freelance journalist. My writing has been published in The Independent (UK), City & State, City Limits, Women's eNews, and a handful of other publications. My time spent teaching, however, has been the most rewarding of my career. I always look forward to meeting and working with new students.
