Experience

www.christinatutoring.com Rates vary depending on grade level, subject, etc. Contact me for an estimate for your particular case. --- There are two key components to succeeding academically. The first component is, needless to say, gaining an understanding of the material. However, this isn't the complete picture. I've met many students that really felt like they knew the subject, yet their grades weren't reflecting this. That is why I must emphasize the importance of the second component - anticipating the way in which your understanding will be tested. Every teacher has their own teaching (and thus, testing) style. Yet the underlying concepts of a given subject are all the same. So my mission is two-fold: - To help students gain a strong understanding of the underlying concepts - To teach students how to approach any type of question and boil it down to its basic concept When a student is able to master the material and recognize its appearance on an exam, he/she is sure to succeed. --- Here are my academic credentials: College Academic Achievements • Tau Beta Pi, Engineering Honor Society • Eta Kappa Nu, Electrical Engineering Honor Society • National Society of Collegiate Scholars High School Academic Achievements • First Place, 2006 Rohm & Haas Electronic Materials Invitational Science Fair • First Place, 2006 APF/TOPSS Excellence in High School Student Research • First Place, 2006 Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF) • Grand Award, 2006 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) • Finalist, 2006 Long Island Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) • Finalist, 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program • Honors, 2006 Otto Burgdorf Student Science Research Competition • 2006 Scholarship for Academic Excellence Award from the NYS Education Department • 2005 Rensselaer Medal Scholarship • 2005 and 2006 AP Scholar with Distinction Award Exam Scores: NYS Regents Exams • Mathematics A 100 • Mathematics B 99 • Earth Science 97 • Biology 98 • Chemistry 99 • Physics 99 • US History 100 • Global History 98 • Comprehensive English 99 • Spanish 100 SAT Reasoning Test • Math 800 • Critical Reading 700 • Writing 780 SAT Subject Tests • Math Ic 770 • Math IIc 800 • Biology 770 • Chemistry 800 • US History 800 AP Exams • Calculus BC 5 • Statistics 5 • Chemistry 5 • Psychology 5 • European History 4 • US History 4 • English Language 4

Hobbies

I enjoy traveling, playing tennis, and cooking/baking. I like to keep myself busy and to keep my mind active. I like to keep this philosophy in mind as I tutor students. Although good grades are important, a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle comes first. So my tutoring style involves much more than just recapping class notes and going over homeworks. I create additional problems, teach multiple techniques to solving a single problem, and work with the student to develop effective study habits. Every student is unique. Thus, I believe tutoring must cater to each individual student in order to reach them most effectively and to keep challenging them to reach new levels of success. Learning and success involve the development of both technical and non-technical skills. The gratification of seeing a student do well on the exam we prepared for is nothing compared to the gratification of seeing that student find his/her passion and go off to a great school to pursue it. Getting good grades will of course help, but I encourage students to develop communication skills, organizational skills, and time management. I want students to do well not just on one exam but in life. My passion for tutoring stems from my passion for learning. I strongly believe the best application of knowledge is the sharing of knowledge. There's a certain fulfillment one gets out of helping someone else, especially someone young. Tutors, teachers, coaches, etc. - whether they realize it or not, they all play the role of mentors as well. A good mentor can be a strong, positive influence on someone's childhood, helping to shape their future.
