Andre R.

Private tutor in New York, NY

Education

B.A. Columbia University, Columbia College, English/Philosophy, 3.7/4.0, received 2012

Experience

I've taught ESL in Korea and New York, and I've worked as a freelance tutor/guitar teacher in Westchester and NYC since 2010. Although the bulk of my experience has been with younger students (aged 6-12), I prefer teaching high school level English literature and writing, as it gives me a chance to teach what I'm really passionate about, above contributing to a student's understanding of fundamentals. I'm also experienced with test-prep and assisting with the college admissions process. The college essay has always been one of my favorite subjects to teach, as it gives me a chance to learn about a student and help them to find their own voice.

Hobbies

Besides literature, I'm passionate about music and the guitar. I've been playing for about 12 years, and currently working with a couple of groups in NYC as well as crafting my own material. I'm also very interested in yoga and meditation.
