Experience
Along with various tutoring programs throughout my undergrad, I have also taught and designed lesson plans and thematic units in public middle and high school science classrooms. I have experience tutoring all levels of grade school students, including those with learning disabilities or in remedial courses. I have a passion for teaching and science, and I believe that critical thinking skills start in the science classroom. I believe the best way to foster these critical thinking skills is by following a constructivist epistemology allowing students to solve problems with minimal help from the teacher except to stay on track. During my undergrad I took a wide range of classes in the biological sciences with a focus on the molecular regulations of cell functions. A short list of classes would include: endocrinology, cell biology, neurology, herpetology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, and ecology. I also spent four years during my undergrad working at Pennington Biomedical Research Facility learning and taking part in research. I take great pride in my ability to connect with people I was voted best personality senior superlative out of a class of ~250 students. I love being around and connecting to people. This also helps me find ways to explain material in tailor made ways for the individual, which is my most complemented skill as a teacher.
