Education

* Bachelor's degree with high honors (magna cum laude) from Harvard in Social Studies * Master's degree in public health (MPH) from Boston University, concentrating in health policy (health reform, health care access and costs) * elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Harvard * wrote 200+ page undergraduate thesis that involved data analysis and oral history interviews as well as historical and sociological research

Experience

In writing and in teaching, I focus especially on how to make things clear even if they initially seem complicated. * Editing: A careful editor, I'll help you to produce writing that is straightforward, concise, well-organized, and engaging, with proper English grammar and syntax. (In collaborating recently with accomplished professionals on drafting op eds, media releases and other writing, several have said I'm the best editor they know.) * Tutoring: For 15+ years, I've tutored masters-level and some undergrad students in health care finance. I also have tutored junior high math and high school journalism. I enjoy helping college, graduate, and high school students discover that you can indeed understand coursework (including some math) that seemed confusing and intimidating! I've worked with international grad students to help polish their written English and improve their English writing skills as they prepare papers, resumes, etc. * Teaching: I've taught and been a teaching assistant for master's-level courses in health policy and management at Boston University, and guest lecturer in several health policy courses there and elsewhere. * Writing: Experienced author/co-author of many academic research reports, op.ed. articles (published in the Boston Globe, Newsday, and more), news stories, testimony, grant applications, press releases, organizing leaflets, and fact sheets. * SAT verbal 780, math 770 I mainly work online and by phone, but may also be able to meet in person in/near Morningside Heights. I can review writing that is emailed to me, provide comments in a google doc, and then discuss it further by phone or email.
