My name is Raimi (think Do-Ray-Me) and I am a former 6th grade math and science teacher. After college I moved to Hawaii to teach and was amazed at how much fun these subjects can be once students acquired the skills they need to succeed in the classroom. During my second year of teaching I started to offer students tutoring after school in order to give them extra support to gain core missing skills. I particularly enjoyed working one-on-one with students because it allowed me to learn more about them and the things they struggled with while in the classroom. If done right, I believe tutoring is often times the missing link students need in order to be successful academically. In between teaching during my summer, I had the opportunity to tutor abroad in the middle east (Palestine) and work on students English/writing skills. I enjoyed working with students who are particularly English learners who desire to master the English language. My relationship with using English in the form of public speaking dates back to me being a member of my university's speech and debate team. I gained invaluable public speaking skills through the mentor-ship of great coaches. We experienced immense success as my school team was ranked top 10 in the country and my partner and I were consistently ranked top 5 in our division. Although 6th grade is almost always middle school in New York, in Hawaii where I got my certification, 6th grade counted as elementary school. I became certified to teach all subjects, K-6 during my first year of teaching. If you are looking for academic support I encourage you to reach out.
