Laura H.
Private tutor in New York, NY
Education
I hold a B.A. in Anthropology and Art History from Ithaca College (overall GPA 3.5), and a M.A. in Anthropology from SUNY Buffalo (GPA 3.98). I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Anthropology, which I anticipate to receive in 2016.
Experience
My teaching experience includes teaching APY 108 Intro to Archaeology at SUNY Buffalo in 2012, and teaching a hands on field school in archaeology at a Bronze Age archaeological site in Greece in 2011. I enjoy working with students in a tutoring capacity because I think it is one of the best ways to build critical thinking skills and develop true engagement with the subject. I have a strong background in the social sciences and humanities, with consistently high marks in undergraduate and graduate courses spanning multiple fields. I also have experience with research design, quantitative and qualitative methods. I pride myself in my ability to explain complex ideas in simple, approachable language, that makes learning engaging and fun. I am currently writing my Ph.D. thesis on the origins of urbanism in Bronze Age Turkey, and working to bring together a field school during the summer of 2014, where I will bring 20 students from across the globe to teach them methods of archaeological excavation and analysis, as well as lead multiple extracurricular excursions.

Hobbies
I enjoy staying active and have a social, outgoing personality. I think it is important to maintain a healthy balance between work and play. In my free time I enjoy working out, cooking, the arts, and of course, visiting the many museums and galleries in the city when I'm not working on research.
