Education
(Only available for online tutoring.) Worked as a Software Engineer at Google for four and a half years. I have a Master's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University. I did my undergrad also at Stanford, in Music with a concentration in conducting. Some remarks about my mathematics background: A lot of my mathematics background comes from high school experiences. I spent a lot of time with The Art of Problem Solving’s (artofproblemsolving.com) books and taking its online courses. In particular, I took their proof-based calculus course concurrently with, and as a more rigorous supplement for, my high school’s AP Calculus BC course. I also received intensive olympiad-level training in proofs at the AwesomeMath Summer Program at UC Santa Cruz, which I attended for two summers. In addition to coursework and self-studying, I was involved in math competitions as both a competitor and a test writer. I competed at the local, state, and national level in various competitions. I also spent a significant time on the other side of competitions, contributing tests and detailed solutions for statewide math competitions in Florida.
Experience
I have extensive tutoring experience in math, science, and music. Students I have worked with range in age from middle school to college and beyond. In addition to tutoring privately, I have served as a section leader for Stanford's introductory computer science class, Programming Methodology (taught in Java). For three quarters, I served as a course assistant for the Stanford course Mathematical Foundations of Computing (CS103). My math tutoring philosophy in a nutshell: "Mathematics is the art of explanation." Some test scores: AP Calculus BC: 5 AP Computer Science: 5 AP Music Theory: 5 AP Statistics: 5 IB Mathematics HL: 7 SAT: 2300 (800 Math, 770 Reading, 730 Writing) (old system) SAT Math II: 800 I also tutor biology, chemistry, Latin, and computer programming (Java, C++, C) at the AP/SAT level. Here are some relevant test scores: AP Biology: 5 AP Chemistry: 5 SAT Chemistry: 800 AP Computer Science: 5 SAT Latin: 700 The quote I used above is from an online article by mathematician Paul Lockhart. It has governed the way I think about mathematics ever since I read it.
