EducationBrown University, BA Economics, 2013
ExperienceTutored throughout highschool and college; got a 750V/750M/790W on the SAT, 5 on BC Calculus. I am particularly great at tutoring high school math. Have tutored for ACT and SAT before. I want to be a tutor because having been a transfer student from Villanova (a much lesser school than Brown), I know how hard and scary the college race is, and I'm genuinely interested in playing the getting-into-college game. I concentrated in economics but took a lot of upper-level math along with it (and also the lower-level college courses linear algebra and multivariable calculus). I'm energetic and enthusiastic about math, but still very patient and willing to explain things in different ways, no matter how many times I have to re-configure my explanation. I'm pretty unique in that I'm about as good at English as I am at math -- I'm a very good writer, and got a 35 on the English section of the ACT when I was in 7th grade (basically, I know grammar)!
HobbiesI do the NYT Crossword Puzzle every day of the week. I enjoy staying culturally up-to-date as a New Yorker (in terms of fashion, art, music, etc), but I also enjoy playing Bananagrams and Settlers of Catan. I'm math-oriented and I especially love getting non-math-oriented students to understand the concepts that come so easily to me (and, as such, I am very excited about) -- but I did do very well in my Verbal and Writing sections of the SAT. I'm bubbly, energetic, and genuinely enthusiastic about the subjects I'm teaching -- I'm a good motivator! I currently work in data analytics (on the path to becoming a 'data scientist' one day) and want to make some extra money in my spare time.
