Experience
I have been a writing tutor for over 4 years and my background is in academic as well as creative writing. I earned my Bachelor's degree with honors in English and I am a Kayes Scholar for English. I am also a comedy writer for a comedy theater in NYC and I believe my creative background helps in finding effective techniques to making assignments not only easier, but also more interesting. As a writing tutor at The City College Writing Center for the past 3 years, I have worked with over 600 students in one-on-one tutoring sessions geared toward improving writing skills. The types of assignments included academic essays, research papers, speeches, creative writing, graduate theses, and personal statements. I also have helped students with study skills, brainstorming, outlining, and grammar. I have also frequently advised students during the course of their academic careers. I have had multiple students gain acceptance into competitive programs such as Columbia's MFA program for Directing/Screenwriting, NYU Law, City College's Media and Communication Arts program, and City College's Electronic Design and Multimedia Program. Several students I've tutored have also gone on to become Kayes scholars and Colin Powell Fellows. Other experience I have includes administering weekly grammar workshops for City College’s Advanced Grammar course and constructed long-term individualized learning plans tailored to English as a Second Language students, English Language Learners, and students with disabilities.
