Experience

I always had a strong passion for education. I think it is a great career path that gives me the opportunity to influence hundreds of students in an encouraging and positive way. Currently, I am a Social Studies Teacher at New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science II. I have taught Global History to freshmen and sophomores. My focus has been preparing students for their Global History Regents Exam, while improving their reading, writing, and speaking skills. I also hold after school tutoring sessions for my students, and run the drama club as well. I was a student teacher at Jacquelyn Kennedy Onassis High School. I taught Global History to freshmen and AP European History to sophomores and juniors. Previously, I was an AVID tutor at the school for a year and a half. Half of my time, I worked with Social Studies students in their coursework. The other half I facilitated group tutoring sessions, where I helped students with any questions they had from any subject area. I also had the opportunity to work with seniors on their college resumes and essays. I have privately tutored in several subjects for eight years. The main two subjects were Global and U.S. History in passing their classes and Regents Exam. I also have previous experience tutoring elementary and middle school subjects as well. I am a firm believer in teaching students reading, writing, and study skills that they can also use to apply to other subjects as well. I also worked for Reach the World. I taught at PS 175 to help improve students' global awareness while working on their reading and writing skills. I also collaborated with college students who study abroad and helped them blog about their experiences for elementary students. For three years I worked with a company called Mad Science. I instructed weekly after school science programs for kindergarten through fifth grade students. I also performed for the company in science based shows, in the forms of assemblies, workshops, and birthday parties. I also have additional experience working as a Group Leader at Maplewood Summer Program for eight summers at the elementary school level.
